Gonsulok Padi Bukit week 1

On 18/04/2017, we carry out a mini project on how planting the Gonsulok Padi Bukit. My team have take soil from 4 areas in UMS which is ODEC, PPIB, FSSA and DKP Baru while 1 soil from Mengkabong mangrove forest. the 5 different soil is then put in the 5 different pot with the volume of 5 Liter. each pot is planted with 20 gonslok padi bukit's seed. The pot then is watered 500ml of water once every two days during monday, wednesday and friday. My team also calculate the pH value and also the wet weight of the soil. The pH of the soil of the ODEC, PPIB, FSSA, DKP Baru and Mengkabong calculated by using pH paper is 7, 6, 5, 5 and 4.5 respectively while from the  pH meter is 7.42, 6.44, 3.02, 3.52 and 2.45 respectively. the wet weight of the soil is 206.87g, 170.04g, 179.19g, 205.89g and 207.68g respectively. we dont know the accurate date of the first germination of the seed because during that time, we go to tenom field trip. the estimated date of the first germination was 21/04/2017. the height of the plant at the end of first week is 6cm, 6cm, 5cm, 7.5cm and 0cm respectively.

ODEC

  • rate of germination = 25%

















PPIB

  • rate of germination = 35%

















FSSA

  • rate of germination = 35%


















DKP Baru

  • rate of germination = 45%



















Mengkabong

  •  rate of germination = 0%

    Revise:

    (1) pH paper and pH meter data differs greatly, please retook soil pH again by using pH meter (it will be better if the pH paper results pictures are shown in the report).

    (2) Determine the soil texture type by using the texture triangulation diagram.
    Show the jar test results, layer separation.
    How the calculation was made.
    The lines on the texture triangulation to determine the soil type.
    Post it on the blog.
    Assigned this task to Nur Aini.

    (3) Since 4 soils were taken in the vicinity of UMS, I suggest that the group map this soil on the UMS map so you know what kind of soil texture and soil pH taken from different location in UMS.
    What type of soil texture and soil pH does UMS have?
    Assigned this task to Mohd Reyon Armywie.

    How many seeds were sowed?

    On 9th May 2017, from each pot, carefully dug 3 whole seedling out attached with all the developed roots.
    Measure the length of the whole seedlings from the root tips to shoots.
    Measure the root length only.
    Measure the green shoot part only.
    Measure the weight of the whole plant.
    Air dry those seedlings.
